Why YWAM?

Updated: Oct 31, 2024

Hi! I’m Ayden—welcome, and I’m so glad you’re here!

I’m 20 years old and currently studying Entrepreneurship at Dordt University. I’ll be graduating with an associate’s degree this December, and in January, I’m thrilled to begin the first phase of YWAM (Youth With A Mission) in Hawaii! You might be asking, “Why YWAM?” Great question—let me tell you a bit more about my journey and what led me here.

A Little About Me

I was raised in a Christian home in Sioux Center, Iowa. During a mission trip to Myrtle Beach in my freshman year of high school, I experienced a shift from simply knowing about God to truly knowing Him personally. In my sophomore year, I decided to publicly profess my faith to my church family. Then, this past spring, while on a mission trip to Austin, Texas, I felt a strong calling to pursue missions further, ultimately leading me to YWAM.

What is YWAM?

YWAM, or Youth With A Mission, is a global Christian organization dedicated to equipping people to share their faith and serve communities worldwide. Their programs include community development, education, and discipleship. The core of YWAM is the Discipleship Training School (DTS), a six-month program that combines spiritual growth and practical training. The first half focuses on classroom learning and spiritual development, while the second half involves hands-on ministry work in different countries.

Why YWAM?

Looking back on my faith journey, mission trips have been instrumental in my growth. God has used these experiences to reveal unique spiritual gifts and talents, particularly in encouraging others and sharing His joy. I’m excited to see how YWAM will help me grow these gifts, with new opportunities to serve and connect. Plus, I love meeting new people, and I’m eager to build relationships with other believers while reaching new communities.

What’s Next?

As I step into this new journey, I’m working on raising around $10,000 to cover tuition, room and board, flights, and other living expenses. Starting in January 2025, I’ll move to Kona, Hawaii, and later, I’ll be assigned to a foreign country to begin hands-on ministry until mid-June. If you’d like to support me financially, please visit the “Support” tab on my homepage!

I can’t wait to share this journey with you and see what the Lord has in store! I would love to chat if you have any questions or just want to connect—please reach out! My phone number is (712) 463-3611, and my email is ayden.denherder@gmail.com. I’ll also be sending weekly updates while I’m away, so if you’d like to receive those, be sure to sign up on the “Support” tab. Thank you so much for your support and prayers!

With love, Ayden
